From Broke to Better this EOFY.

Since this week’s Dispatch covered financial glow-ups and sweet ATO refunds, this Soft Stack round-up focuses on tools, resources, and small indulgences that align with that “from broke to better” energy. I may be hopelessly delulu, but I have a financial solulu.

📱 Superannuation App:

I never used to pay attention to my super. Mostly because it felt like money I was forced to put away and couldn’t touch (because: YOLO). But now that I’m ✨grown✨, I’m incredibly grateful for Australia’s super scheme. It literally forced my 20-something self to look after my one-day 65-year-old self (something one in their early 20s cannot even fathom because you’ll be young 4eva, right?!).
Having an app for my super fund gives me an actual dopamine hit. I check it the way people check their step count or Duolingo streak. And now that I’m in my 30s? That balance is finally starting to look... stable. As a single, childless, average-income earner, it’s kind of a light at the end of the tunnel tbh.

🧮 Tax Accountant During Refund Season:

Yes, the fee stings, but the return they get you will likely be better than what you can get yourself (if you’re as hopelessly useful with tax as I am).
I used to do my tax myself to avoid fees and get my money back quicker, but the refund was always mid at best. Let me tell you: good things (and big returns) take time… and a professional.

🕯️ Target’s Scented Candles:

I’ve been buying a new one every week. Why does a nice smell in the house make me feel healthy, clean, and deeply at peace? It’s budget aromatherapy. I really need one of those long lighters so I stop burning my fingers every time.

🖼️ In The Picture Tax Accountants:

If you’re in Australia and work in film, production, or advertising, then run, don’t walk. They’re tax accountants who specialise in creative fields and, frankly, have saved my ass. I’m terrible at knowing what’s claimable, what isn’t, and whether I’m committing light fraud by accident. Their whole vibe is “tell me what you’ve got, and we’ll sort it.” Bless.

💐 Fresh Flowers From Coles:

A bunch of fresh flowers paired with a nice-smelling candle? That’s not just a vibe; that’s a mental health plan. $15 of dopamine, beautifully arranged.
